Traditional Thai Medicine

Greeting all! Today we visited the Chao phraya Abhaibhubate Hospital in Prachin Buri Province, a hospital practicing traditional Thai medicine. It was an interesting experience to say the least! Being able to learn about the ways thats plants and herbs can be used was very enlightening. We started out listening to a short lecture from one of the hospitals Pharmacists. He then gave us a tour where we were able to see the many ways of how Thai herbal and natural medicine works. We were shown the massage room, the outpatient pharmacy, the sterile lab, and many rooms (which looked like rooms from a museum) filled with tools, ingredients, art work, and posters full of information. We were then treated to an amazing lunch! After lunch we were able to visit one of the farms near by which is owed and operated by multiple families that work to supply the herbs used for the hospitals medicine.

I learned a lot today. A few examples of what we learned today is that it is illegal to use animal products in medications in Thailand, the process of how the herbs are picked to when they reach the hospital, the herbs that are used are all organic from private farms (none of which are owned by the hospital), and that the hospital mostly distributed medications to Thailand but has 2% export out to Tokyo Japan and is hoping to export to China in the net future!

I also bought a lot of cool natural product souvenirs such as lotion and soap!

Ta ta for now!
