7 course COOKING CLASS!

Today was an experience for the BOOKS!

A van picked us up from our hotel at 830am to head over to the main location for 'Asia Scenic Cooking Class'. We were taken to browse the largest market in Chiang Mai which was filled with various fruits and vegetables, commonly used spices and curry pastes and over 8 kinds of rice to cook with Thai style food! After that we went back to the kitchen site and explored the most vast garden I have ever walked through, which contained pretty much ever ingredient we needed to make any type of Thai Food. Here are some pictures of things we found :) As we learned how to make our own curry paste and smash and cook veggies, some for flavor and some for nutrition, we were taught the significance of each ingredient! It was amazing to me how many kinds of basil are grown in Thailand such as thai and lemon basil and a few others! I personally found it interested to notice how similar Thai cooking and Indian cooking are because I noticed similar techniques that my mom has taught me and probably why Thai has been my favorite cuisine for years :) The impact that fresh ingredients make on a dish is amazing and completely noticeable! We left with a cook book of meals beyond what we personally chose to make and the best part was, the cook book offered substitutes to certain ingredients in the case that we weren't able to find the same ingredients in our respective countries. This excursion was amazing and now it's time for a nap, because this Food Coma has hit us all pretty badly! Till next week friends.
