Night Market Adventures

Finally we have touched down in Chiang Mai (she-ang may)!!!

Today after getting situated in our new hotel for the next 10 days, we had an awesome dinner with the crew and then tackled our very first outside night market. According to the general consensus we have heard that nothing beats a Chiang Mai market - and I couldn't agree more! The trick is to take your time and browse through everything and anything that even catches your glimpse so that you can see all the unique souvenirs and not miss a thing! Its known that at the start and the end of the markets are the most expensive and the middle is the best! So note to self - don't wait too long and try to haggle your way through all the stalls so that you're left with choosing the highest prices in the end because you're too lazy to turn back around. In addition, something important I noticed, was that as popular as it is to bargain an already seemingly affordable price, haggling beyond limits is also not okay because for most of these vendors, this is their SOLE form of income. It's important to think about that before you suggest an outrageously low price for an item because they also have to put food on the table. SO be respectful, kind and reasonable (just a TIP) :) With a little patience and a good eye one can do some serious damage at these markets. However, once in a while I found myself drifting and observing the people, the colors and the culture that I had become immersed in. It feels so nice to be a part of this community abroad and get to know the wonderful Thai People!
