Hello all,
Today was our day at Chiang Mi University. The day consisted of us learning about the structure of Thai health care and the roles of the pharmacists. What made the experience unique is that at the end of the day a group of Thai pharmacy students came into the room and all students participated in an open discussion comparing and contrasting the two different types of health care.
The major point of discussion was the differences between the medications in the U.S./Thailand that require a prescription to obtain. Previous blogs have discussed these differences so I will not go into them but topics such as drug/health care accessibility and drug resistance stemmed from this. An interesting concept that was brought up was how American pharmacists can vaccinate while those in Thai can't. Seeing how Thai health care has always been heavily influenced by the U.S., I found it very interesting to hear that there is currently no push for Thai pharmacists to be able to vaccinate and the students that we talked to seemed to have no interest in being able to do so.
All The Best,
Travis Frost
