Today was an exciting day as it was our first opportunity to experience direct patient care. We visited a dermatology clinic led by Dr. Kampirapap (front middle), and observed patients who presented with diseases such as leprosy and mycetoma. This was interesting because these are disease states that we rarely see in the United States. We learned about drugs such as clofazamine that inhibits DNA replication and causes skin pigmentation and major GI side effects.
The students were treated with a great deal of hospitality from the entire staff. The people were extremely friendly and we were offered food and refreshments on numerous occasions. We were all really appreciate of the patients willingness to allow us to observe the doctor while he performed brief work ups.
All The Best,
Travis Frost
