Today we had the pleasure of visiting the newest community pharmacy in Bangkok which opened its doors on June 1st. With the help of local pharmacy students, the Osotsala Pharmacy is changing up how patients interact with pharmacists and how they give effective drug information to patients in a new age way. A team of pharmacy students have develop a QR scanning drug label system for drug vials; patients can scan their prescription labels and get access to a single page info sheet on all the important clinical pearls on their drug. With one picture, a patient can learn what common and severe side effects are possible, what labs or tests need to be conducted, how long they should take the drug for, who to call for questions, what to do if you miss a dose, etc. It was amazing to see not only how advanced the newest systems in Thailand are, but learning that students are leading the charge and building new programs shows how integrated colleges of pharmacy can be and how anyone can make a major change in pharmaceutical practice.
